Declaring the Major

Before Declaring the Major

All students are required to complete Legal Studies 10 (Introduction to the Legal Process) with a grade of "C" or better prior to declaring the Legal Studies major. This course is normally taken during the first year.

To Declare the Major

Complete a Declaration of Major form and the Legal Studies Program Worksheet for the Major. If you are declaring a double major or major/minor you will also need an Academic Planning form. Use the Legal Studies section of the UCSC General Catalog if you need help identifying the major requirements and completing your Worksheet for the Major.

Bring your completed declaration of major and major worksheet forms to the undergraduate adviser in Merrill-27 during office hours to get declared.

Declaration of Major/Minor Deadlines for 2016-2017:

Fall 2016 Friday, Oct. 21
Winter 2017 Friday, Feb. 10
Spring 2017 Friday, Apr. 28

**If you need assistance in filing out forms and with course planning you can visit the Legal Studies Peer Advisor office hours in Merrill-8.

Requirements for the Minor

To complete a minor in legal studies, students must take Legal Studies 10 (pass with a grade of a C or better) and five upper-division legal studies core courses numbered 101-190.

Print and complete the Petition for Major/Minor Declaration and the UCSC Academic Planning form, then bring all completed paperwork to Merrill 27 during the Undergraduate Adviser's office hours.
