jgehring.pngCongratulations to Jacqueline Gehring, associate teaching professor of legal studies, who received UCSC’s 2020-2021 Distinguished Teaching Award. Given by the UCSC Committee on Teaching, this new award recognizes outstanding contributions to research-based pedagogy, educational equity, and a culture of teaching excellence.

In bestowing the award, the Committee on Teaching praised Professor Gehring’s “breadth of new courses” and “generous support of colleagues...in this tumultuous year.” Among other undergraduate courses, Professor Gehring teaches Introduction to Legal Process (LGST 10), Comparative Law (LGST 116), Sports, Law, and Politics (LGST 117), and Senior Capstone (LGST 196).

Gehring, who holds a PhD in Jurisprudence and Social Policy from UC Berkeley, joined UCSC in 2016 from Allegheny College, where she was associate professor and chair of political science. At UCSC, Gehring’s pedagogical approaches have given students the opportunity to grow as scholars.

We are grateful for the contributions that Professor Gehring has made to the Legal Studies Program, and we congratulate her on this campus wide recognition.
