Legal Studies professor, Mark Fathi Massoud, is working on a new colloaborative project about Shari'a law in California. The goal of the project, Shari’a Revoiced: Documenting American Muslims' Experiences of Islamic Law, is to uncover new voices and understandings of Islamic law among Muslim communities in California, a microcosm of the United States. The research team's collaborative studio adopts a grounded-theory approach built on a shared conviction that interpretive and humanistic-oriented scholarship can and should be accessible to public audiences. Professor Massoud also recently published an article with Professor Kathleen M. Moore from UCSB in Boom: The Journal of Califronia, "Rethinking Shari'a: Voices of Islam in California."
